Wieners and nuts on wheels: Two crazy cars rolling into Wichita area
As if the arrival of the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile in the Wichita area weren’t notable enough, there’s even more food-on-wheels news.
As soon as the famous hot-dog-shaped car rolls out of town, the Planters NUTmobile, a 23½-foot-long peanut on wheels, will roll in to the area.
The Wienermobile, which seems to visit Wichita at least once a year, will arrive in Wichita on Thursday and will stay until Sunday. It’ll be set up at a different location each day, mostly at Dillons stores, and people who visit can get their picture taken with the car, whose drivers typically pass out wiener whistles.
Then on the following Thursday, Aug. 24, the NUTmobile will appear and will make stops over four days at Wal-Mart stores in Newton, El Dorado, Derby and Augusta. Nut fans are invited to see the vehicle, meet Mr. Peanut and shout “I love Planters!” to receive a sample of Planters nuts.
It’s hard to explain the allure of these odd vehicles, but people love them. I confess to having my picture taken with the Wienermobile (at least) once.
What are the odds these two crazy cars will ever be this close to Wichita this close together again?
