Shamrock owner testing out dinner service

Dave Stough’s regular Shamrocks customers, who he calls the “Sham Fam,” know he’s a great cook. So do the people who pile in each St. Patrick’s Day for his annual corned beef feast.

But Stough’s Delano bar, the Shamrock at 1724 W. Douglas, doesn’t have a food menu.

Now, Stough is responding to customer requests, he said, by testing out whether adding dinner service for good would be practical.

“We’ve just been trying to see if we have the commitment from customers,” he said.

He’s started serving meals from 7 to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. The focus is barbecue.

Tonight, for example, he’s serving a meal that includes half a barbecue smoked chicken, fingerling potatoes with house-made chimichurri sauce, cole slaw, rolls with Irish butter and mini-cheesecake bites for dessert. The meal is $12.

On Saturday night, he’s putting on a fish fry and will serve catfish nuggets, homemade hushpuppies, tartar sauce and garlic salad for $5 a plate.

Other items he’s known for and will include in the weekend offerings include smoked ribs, hot links and more.

Stough says he’ll decide in a few months if the experiment worked. If it does, he said, he’ll begin serving dinner Mondays through Saturdays.
