Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers will play the Orpheum on May 17.
Hornsby, of “The Way It Is” and “Mandolin Rain” fame, is on the road ahead of the release of a new album, “Rehab Reunion,” in June.
Hornsby’s band was the Range back when he made a huge splash with “The Way It Is” in 1986 and won a Grammy for Best New Artist the next year. Since then he’s collaborated with many musicians, including the Grateful Dead and Ricky Skaggs.
The new album will feature Hornsby on dulcimer backed by the Noisemakers.
