Selfie-portraits: Moms share photos with their kids
Motherhood is a photogenic occupation, it turns out.
In honor of Mother’s Day, we recently asked readers to send in selfies featuring mothers and their children, and the pictures started coming in right away. We received more than 150 submissions of moms cheesing with their babies, moms squeezed in with their big broods, moms kissing their kiddos, moms who had clearly passed on their goofy grins.
The winner, chosen by The Eagle’s photo staff, was Christina Brenneman, who submitted a pretty black-and-white snap of herself and her 14-year-old daughter, Eden, looking upward at the camera as snowflakes fall on their heads.
Christina remembers that they were Christmas shopping at Aspen Traders in 2014. When they went inside, it wasn’t snowing. When they came out, giant flakes were falling from the sky.
“We said, ‘We have to take a picture of these huge flakes of snow coming down on us,’ ” she said. “It was like a scene out of a movie.”
Christina, a sixth-grade teacher in Maize, and Eden, a Classical School of Wichita eighth-grader, are very close, Christina said. They like to shop together and take mother-daughter trips. When they do, they frequently memorialize big moments with selfies. (Her almost 12-year-old son, Carson, doesn’t have the same enthusiasm for self-portraiture, she said with a laugh.)
Take a moment this Mother’s Day to scroll through all of our heartwarming submissions, which you can find at kansas.com/holidays.
