Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.
Help arrived just in time for this 30-year-old single mom.
In the span of little more than a month this fall, her steady job as a data analyst went away when the Wichita company transferred the work to another city, and then, shortly after picking up a temporary job at a restaurant, she injured her back and could barely walk.
That was enough to put her behind on car payments and other bills. But recently Share the Season provided enough money to help her get caught up.
“More than enough,” said the mother of two, 12 and 6. “A huge help. Now maybe we can even have a little Christmas.”
Things were looking pretty bleak in mid-October when she was laid off from her full-time job. Then came the injury shortly after she landed the seasonal work.
“I’m better now,” she said of her back. “I’m able to work a day or two each week.”
She’s hopeful she’ll find a full-time job soon.
In the meantime, she said, Share the Season’s assistance “has been a tremendous blessing.”
