Share the Season: After wreck, family needed help with utility bills
Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.
This family has been through some hard times in the past two years.
The father, a truck driver, injured his back in an accident.
“My husband used to be the sole provider but he was in a real bad truck wreck in Oklahoma,” the 37-year-old mother said.
He is able to work only two days a week.
She works full time, third shift, as a medical aide.
Her pay is not enough, and the family has fallen behind in utility bills. She now has a bulging disc in her own back.
They have three adolescent and teenage children.
“My boss told me about Share the Season,” the mother said. “… I never realized I could do it and get help.”
Share the Season has agreed to help the family with utility bills.
“I’m really grateful. I do appreciate it,” she said.
Share the Season is a joint project of The Eagle, the Wichita Community Foundation and the Salvation Army.
So far this season, it has raised $127,136.
