Share the Season: Work injury sets single mom behind on rent, utilities

Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.

Being out of work for two months was enough to put her in a financial hole.

But a little help from Share the Season gave this 37-year-old single mother a chance to climb out.

“Definitely helped,” she said. “I was very concerned.”

The woman was injured on the job in July. Her doctor advised her to seek a job that would be less strenuous. But it took her two months to find work that fit within those restrictions.

That was enough to put her behind on rent and utility bills.

In her application to Share the Season, the mother of a 1-year-old daughter wrote that help would “give me a fresh start and a (peace) of mind knowing I can focus on my new job.”

She said she follows a budget and knows she can stay current with her bills after receiving some help to get over the bump.

“It would be like a dream come true,” she added.

Share the Season is a joint project of The Eagle, the Wichita Community Foundation and the Salvation Army.

So far, Share the Season has raised $82,611.
