Share the Season: Mom who was laid off gets help paying bills

Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.

A unemployed single mother with two children has received some relief from Share the Season in getting caught up with her bills.

The campaign recently paid several bills for her.

“It helped us out a lot,” she said.

The 26-year-old Wichitan was laid off in August from her job with a specialty gift company after she had to miss work to care for her asthmatic daughter, she said.

The 6-year-old girl was hospitalized for more than a week a few months ago. After the child was released from the hospital, the mother said she needed to be with her daughter around the clock for a while.

Her daughter is doing much better now, she said.

“I’m searching for work,” she said. “I hope to go back to school part time.”

Share the Season is a joint project of The Eagle, the Salvation Army and the Wichita Community Foundation.

So far, it has raised more than $123,667.
