Share the Season: Mom of two trying to get heat turned back on

Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.

The past year, the 38-year-old mother of two girls separated from her husband.

She works as a cashier but struggles to pay bills.

She has no car and can’t afford to move. Her daughters are ages 16 and 9.

The mother wrote on her application that she doesn’t have heat in her home.

“It was turned off in the summer,” she wrote. “I can’t afford the deposit. I’m trying to do it alone.”

Share the Season is a joint project of The Eagle, the Wichita Community Foundation and the Salvation Army.

So far, it has raised more than $116,752.
