Spring has just rolled around, and the greater Wichita area is hopping with Easter-themed events.
Many of the special events center around egg hunts, but several feature additional activities too. If you’re heading to an Easter egg hunt, remember to bring a basket to hold your goodies. Here is a look at several area events.
Pose for pictures
Picture sessions with the Easter Bunny are underway already at both Cabela’s, 2427 N. Greenwich, and Towne East Square. At Cabela’s, you need to RSVP online at cabelas.com/shop/en/easter for your photo shoot and you get one 4x6 photo free with packages available for purchase. Accompanied by mermaids from The Enchanted Mermaid, the Easter Bunny will be available for photos from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at Muse Meridian, 301 S. Meridian. Photo packages are $15 for an 8x10 inch photo and $25 for two 5x7-inch photos. More info: facebook.com/TheEnchantedMermaidICT
Use a bit of artistic license during Paint the Towne’s special family painting Easter event 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 29, at its east location, 1625 S. Rock Road. Incorporate some bunny ears when painting the creature from the Black Lagoon, a zombie, a werewolf or Frankenstein on an 11x14 canvas. Decorate some sweet treats

Special events, including hunts
Chicken N Pickle, 1240 Greenwich, is putting on a free Easter egg hunt on Saturday, March 30, and will send kids out to find candy-filled eggs in age groups: Ages 1-4 hunt from 11 to 11:15 a.m.; ages 5-7 hunt from 11:30 to 11:40 a.m.; and ages 8-10 hunt from 11:55 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. No reservations are required. Kids should bring their own baskets. Also on Saturday, the Easter Bunny will participate in open pickleball play from noon to 2 p.m., and children will be able to enjoy craft activities, yard games, face painting and more. Walters Pumpkin Patch, 10001 US-77 in Burns: Eggs will fall from the sky during 2 p.m. afternoon hunts at the attraction’s Easter Fest, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday March 30. A ground egg hunt happens at 11 a.m. during Easter Fest. Other activities include walking trails, animal petting and a playground. Admission is $14.95 per person. More info: thewaltersfarm.com

Hunt for giant eggs hidden around the Sedgwick County Zoo, 5555 W. Zoo Blvd. during its Easter Eggstravaganza 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 30. Keep a count of the eggs you spot and receive a prize as you leave. You can get photos with the Easter Bunny. Applejack at 10007 SW Indianola Road, Augusta — another attraction that got its start as a pumpkin patch — is holding its 4th Annual egg hunt from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, March 30. Admission is $15 per person, free for ages 2 years and younger; includes a hot dog meal. Additional activities include games, pictures with the Easter Bunny and a candy cannon. The 2nd Annual Great Jurassic Egg Hunt is happening from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at Field Station: Dinosaurs, 2999 N. Rock Road in Derby. For the egg hunt, participants seek out one of each different color of egg along their expedition for a total of 10 different eggs. Park officials expect to have enough eggs for 500 kids. Come for the run and stay for the Easter fun. The 10K portion of the 30th annual Easter Sun Run starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 30, in Sedgwick County Park. A 2-mile run/walk starts at 11. Registration, which ends at noon Friday, March 29, for both the 10K and 2-mile events is $75, the 10K is $50, 2-mile run/walk is $40. The race is a fundraiser for Youth Horizons. The Enchanted Mermaid is hosting an Easter egg hunt and bunny brunch, 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 31, at Muse Meridian, 301 S. Meridian. Along with a brunch and egg hunt, other activities include photos with the Easter Bunny and mermaids, a mermaid makeover, crafts and mermaid storytelling. Area churches and businesses are holding free Easter events, including hunts and other activities.
At Immanuel Baptist Church, 1415 S. Topeka, the Biblical stories from creation to the Easter celebration will be told through tours every 5 to 10 minutes from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 30.
