Need Christmas decorations? Or have extras? New event offers a way to share
The Kansas Nonprofit Chamber is collecting Christmas ornaments, trees and more this week to spread holiday cheer to Wichitans without their own decorations.
It was Chamber President Cindy Miles’ idea to host a Saturday event she’s calling the Great Christmas Decoration Exchange.
“I happen to have grown up in poverty, and every year, even though I don’t live in poverty now, I can remember Christmases where we struggled to have anything to decorate with,” Miles said.
The chamber plans to distribute decorations from the parking lot of their building at 700 N. Market. People can drop by and take what they want from noon to 5 p.m.
Decoration donations of any festive variety will be accepted, Miles said.
“We’ve got trees. We’ve got ornaments. We’ve got wall hangings. We just have all kinds of things,” she said. “If it’s a Christmas decoration, then we’re taking it.”
Miles said the chamber will accept donations at their building throughout the week and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
“I’m just excited to be able to help some of those families that don’t have anything to decorate with for whatever reason.”
