‘Singing Bulbs’ fixed after vandalism at The Arc’s Christmas lights display in Wichita

One of the displays at a popular spot to view Christmas lights while listening to holiday music has been repaired.

The Arc of Sedgwick County said in a Facebook post that the “Singing Bulbs” are back “louder and prouder” after the display was damaged by theft and vandalism.

“How’s this for a Christmas miracle?!” the Facebook post read. “Thanks to an anonymous supporter, our Singing Bulbs are back- louder and prouder than ever! A big thank you to everyone who has showed their support in the last few days. Come out and see The Lights! We’re back!”

The post includes a video showing the “Singing Bulbs” working again.

The display, which features light bulbs with faces singing along to Christmas music, had previously been covered with a sign that read “out of order” in big black letters. It had been vandalized and some of the equipment was stolen — including a lights controller, sound amplifier and an FM transmitter — over opening weekend for the fundraiser.

Though the one display was off, the rest of The Arc’s lights display was not affected.

“People seemed confused thinking the whole event was down, so traffic has been slow and we have had calls and messages to that effect,” officials told The Eagle. “We hope people will again head this way and help us catch up during the shortened Holiday season.”

The Arc, 2919 W. Second, is a nonprofit serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Its drive-through holiday lights display near Douglas and St. Paul is a fundraiser with most of its displays handmade by volunteers.

The Arc’s Lights opened Thanksgiving day and runs through Dec. 28. Admission is $10 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with free-will donations Monday through Thursday.
