Share the Season helps woman after illness
Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.
As long as there weren’t any extended emergencies, this 48-year-old Wichita woman was able to keep up with her bills.
But an eight-day stay in the hospital earlier this year was more than her tight budget could handle. She didn’t get paid during the time off, and she had medical bills to pay as well.
“I wasn’t sure what I was going to do,” she said. “I don’t have much wiggle room in my budget.”
Share the Season was able to bring her utility bills up to date.
“I really appreciate it,” she said. “I didn’t think I’d ever get caught up. I worked extra hours, but I still wasn’t catching up fast enough.”
She has a heart condition, which could flare up again. But she said she hopes to save more so she can handle emergencies.
“Now that I’ve caught up,” she said, “I can stick with my monthly budget plan.”
Share the Season is a joint project of The Eagle, the Wichita Community Foundation and the Salvation Army.
So far this season, it has raised more than $148,358.
