Tour my home: An upscale condo built into a Benton airplane hangar

For aviation-lovers, Jerry Palyash has a dream condo.

Built into an airplane hangar just off the runway at Benton’s Stearman Field airport, his condo is the site of many weekend parties, he said.

After all, who wouldn’t want to party inside a huge hangar alongside a Cessna 335, a Piper Arrow and a Cessna 150? Not to mention the Corvettes and the 20-foot American flag.

The living quarters, which was completed in 2014, is only 700 square feet, but as Palyash points out, it features three TVs – including one in the bathroom.

He’s got a bar built into the hangar, underneath a 4-foot-tall disco ball attached to a 24-foot ceiling fan.

Above the bar – you guessed it – another 60-inch TV.

The hangar has heated floors for those cold winter months, and coolest of all – a vintage fireman’s pole, from an old station in Massachusetts.

I’ll bet you want to see this in person, right?

That’s what this new video series is all about.

Every month, the Eagle will publish a video tour of one of the Wichita area’s most unique homes.

We’re calling the series “My Home.”

Do you know of someone who has a home so cool it’s worth celebrating? Email me at mriedl@wichitaeagle.com or call me at 316-268-6660 with your nominations.

Until then, enjoy the first episode of “My Home,” featuring Palyash and his swanky hangar-condo.
