What to see at Wichita art galleries this Final Friday

This Final Friday, there are a plethora of openings at Wichita galleries.

You can’t go wrong with any of them, but here are my picks for the top Final Friday shows this month:

▪ “Under the Bridge,” 6 to 9 p.m., Douglas Avenue underpass, 700 E. Douglas

Groups are bringing in lights, a DJ and a local graffiti artist to set up in the underpass from 6 to 9 p.m. There will also be a community-participation mural.

▪ “XX8,” 7 to 10 p.m., Fisch Haus, 524 S. Commerce

Fisch Haus will host a closing exhibition for the eighth edition of its biennial XX Series. The series features five female artists from around the country who work in various mediums. Each artist was selected by one of the artists from the last XX opening in 2015. The artists in this year’s exhibition – who hail from the U.S., Canada and France – are Becky Alley, Armel Barraud, Erin Cunningham, Maura Doyle and Narangkar Glover. The show will come down on July 8.

▪ “Hometown Love” and “Under the Cover,” 6 to 8 p.m., CityArts, 334 N. Mead

CityArts, as usual, is opening four exhibitions this Final Friday, though these two in particular caught my eye. “Hometown Love” is the gallery’s first-ever juried graphic design exhibition, featuring student work. The students in “Hometown Love” created posters as an homage to their hometowns, and the winner – as determined by Lifeboat Creative – will receive a $500 prize. “Under the Cover” is an album-art showcase done in collaboration with Spektrum Muzik. It will highlight influential album covers.
