New ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ book is out
The new “Fifty Shades of Grey” book, which came out Thursday, has some fans wondering whether EL James, the series author, is taking it easy.
That’s because the new book covers the same events as the old books, except this time from the perspective of Christian, the male character.
“Lazy writing and what’s worse is, it’ll sell millions of copies. #ugh” wrote Twitter user Andrea Gonzales, @AndreaMarie13.
The tradition of telling the same story from multiple perspectives has a long history. The movie “Rashomon” is one example of art that explores the difficulty of knowing a single truth, by telling a tale from multiple characters’ perspectives.
The previous books have sold more than 125 million copies and the new one has been leading the Amazon presale charts. So, no matter what you think of the series, from just about any perspective, the book will probably be a financial success.
