David Grann, a journalist whose new book recounts a shocking series of crimes in which dozens of members of the Osage Indian tribe were murdered, will visit Wichita this month.

Watermark Books & Cafe is bringing Grann, who will speak and sign books at 6 p.m. on July 20 at Abode Venue, 1330 E. Douglas. The event is free.

Grann’s new book, “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI,” was published in April. In it, he recounts a shocking series of crimes in the 1920s, in which dozens of people were murdered in cold blood. It became the first major homicide investigation for the country’s newly formed Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Grann is a staff writer at The New Yorker magazine. His first book, “The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon,” was made into a movie by Brad Pitt’s Plan B production company and Paramount Pictures.
