Choosing the winner of this year’s Peeps contest was a really hard decision — not nearly as sweet as eating a Peep. We had to keep adding judges, because ties just wouldn’t be broken.

But the winner of this year’s Peeps diorama contest is “Peepton Abbey,” modeled on the popular PBS series “Downton Abbey” that recently ended its five-year TV run. Sheryl Newberry and Jennifer Rose of Derby made the historical-period diorama and win a $100 gift card in the adult division.

The winner in the children’s division is 10-year-old Kalei Fresh of Wichita, who created the “Declaration of Indepeepness.” Kalei is studying the Declaration and “she is fascinated by history and has enjoyed learning about our founding fathers,” her mother, Mindy, wrote in her entry e-mail.

She also wins a $100 gift card.

Other entrants were inspired to create dioramas of their hobbies, from square dancing to foosball; their entertainment choices, from indoor football to runway fashion shows to “Star Wars” and “Ghostbusters”; and the books they’ve been reading. We received seven entries from Sarah Mercer’s fourth-grade class at Pleasantview Elementary School in Derby based on books.

To view all entries, see the galleries at kansas.com/entertainment. May you have a happy and very sweet Easter.
