Holiday Tables, Marlon James, ‘Edward Hopper’s Women’
Festive table displays
Holiday Tables continues Friday and Saturday at the Wichita Center for the Arts. More than 30 tables are decorated for a variety of holidays and occasions as a fundraiser by the center’s volunteer group Designing Women. The event also includes a bake shop, a boutique selling holiday items from Dandurand and lunch for sale. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $10; lunch, which is served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., is $12. More information: 316-634-2787 or www.wcfta.com.
Booker winner at Watermark
Jamaican author Marlon James, recipient of this year’s Man Booker Prize, will be at Watermark Books signing copies of his winning novel, “A Brief History of Seven Killings,” at 6 p.m. Monday. The book looks at three decades of Jamaican gangs and politics starting with the attack on reggae singer Bob Marley in Kingston in 1976. James also will read from the book at Watermark, 4701 E. Douglas.
‘Edward Hopper’s Women’
Patricia Junker, curator of American art at the Seattle Art Museum, will be at the Wichita Art Museum on Thursday to give a lecture on the inspiration for the women in Edward Hopper’s paintings. The lecture, which is free, is at 7:30 p.m.; no reservation is required. Dinner will be served before the lecture at 6:15 p.m. for $40; make reservations by noon Tuesday at www.wichitaartmuseum.org or 316-268-4921, ext. 212. A cash bar and social will be at 5:45 p.m.
