Stories and music that brought African-Americans through slavery, presented in a positive and uplifting way, will be performed by the ARISE ensemble at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Wiedemann Hall on the Wichita State University campus, 1845 Fairmount. The WSU School of Music is presenting the ensemble’s concert of spirituals woven together with the stories. Tickets are $15 at 316-978-3233, or at the door.

Singing Quakers alumni show

The alumni choir of the Singing Quakers will perform its 20th annual concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 1958 N. Webb Road. The choir is made up of almost 80 voices and orchestra. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the Singing Quakers at Friends University. ‘La Llorona’ at WSU

The School of Performing Arts at Wichita State will perform the drama “La Llorona” by Amanda Zeitler from Wednesday through Nov. 16. The play is about a public defender assigned to the case of a woman accused of drowning her children. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Nov. 15, and 2 p.m. Nov. 15 and 16 in Welsbacher Theatre at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex, 29th North and Oliver. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for military/seniors/faculty/staff, and $6 for students at 316-978-3233, or at the door.
