Vienna Boys Choir, mural unveiling, Friends Concert Band with trumpet
Vienna Boys Choir
A choir of boys whose institution dates back to 1498 in Vienna will be in Wichita to sing at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Orpheum Theatre, 200 N. Broadway. The choir, one of four that tour several weeks of the school year, performs a wide range of music, including medieval, contemporary and experimental. The boys come from many countries and range in age from 10 to 14. Tickets are $39 and $35 online at www.selectaseat.com, in person at the Intrust Bank Arena box office and Select-A-Seat outlets, and by calling 316-755-7328.
Mural unveiling
You may have noticed three recently unveiled murals in the Douglas Design District, depicting water (1109 E. Douglas), fire (1824 E. Douglas) and air (2300 E. Douglas). The fourth and last in the elemental series — “Earth” — will be unveiled Saturday at Lincoln Heights Village shopping center, at the corner of Douglas and Oliver. Thomas Murillo, its creator (he also did “Water”), will be there from noon to 1 p.m., as will Josh Tripoli, creator of “Fire” and “Air.” The free event will include fall refreshments.
Concert Band with trumpet
The Friends University Concert Band will perform a concert of standards with Gary Leopold, adjunct professor of trumpet, at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and students, available online at friends.edu/finearts or by calling 316-295-5677. The program will include “The Star-Spangled Banner,” music from “The Lord of the Rings” and “Bugler’s Holiday.”
