‘Death by Design,’ acoustic blues on art plaza, women’s-movement art and music
Mysterious comedy
Noel Coward and Agatha Christie are both inspirations for “Death by Design,” playing at Wichita Community Theatre. The comedy murder-mystery is set in 1932 in an English country manor where one of the diametrically opposed guests is murdered. Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday through Aug. 16. Tickets are $14, $12 for students, military and seniors. The theater is at 258 N. Fountain. Acoustic blues for your ears
Doug MacLeod, winner of the Blues Music Awards Acoustic Artist of the Year and Acoustic Album of the Year (“There’s a Time”) in 2014, will perform at the next Art for Your Ears concert outside the Ulrich Museum of Art at Wichita State University. The show will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday on the McKnight Art Center Plaza, and the museum’s galleries will open at 6:30. Light refreshments will be served. It’s all free. Bring a lawn chair. Women’s art, rock
Mixed-media artwork focusing on women and women’s movements by Donna Davis will be accompanied by performances by several female musicians – including Lalanea Chastain, Rachelle Coba, Lacey Cruse, Lily Frances Dooman, Charisse Kahler, Nikki Moddelmog and Jenny Woodon – on Friday at Positive Directions, 414 S. Commerce. The free Final Friday reception starts at 6 p.m., and the music at 7. Refreshments will be served. There also will be a cash bar, and donations of nonperishable food items will be collected.
