The American Theatre Guild is replacing one movie-based musical with another for its 2022-23 Broadway in Wichita series.

“Legally Blonde – The Musical” will be performed Jan. 27-29, 2023. Based on the 2001 Reese Witherspoon film, the 2007 Broadway hit tells of sorority girl Elle Woods, who enrolls in Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend but finds her knowledge of the law can help others.

It replaces the previously announced “9 to 5,” also based on a successful movie.

Another season addition is “The Concert: A Tribute to Abba,” scheduled for Dec. 29. Called the “ultimate tribute celebration” of the Swedish group, the concert includes “Mamma Mia,” “Waterloo” and “Dancing Queen.” It is a season add-on for subscribers.

The additions join the already-announced schedule of “Anastasia,” March 17-19; “Dear Evan Hansen,” April 11-16; and “Hamilton,” June 6-18. Information on season tickets is available at www.broadwaywichita.com.

“We truly appreciate our Broadway patrons in Wichita. They have remained loyal to our touring Broadway shows for almost 20 years,” Amy Hamm, executive director of The American Theatre Guild and a native of El Dorado, said in a statement. “Whether we are offering a season package or add-on show, we strive to present quality entertainment that provides these valuable patrons with a top-notch experience.”
