Urban arts festival

A “creative uprising” featuring street artists, skateboarders, musicians and chefs will happen at the North End Urban Arts Festival, set for 5 to 11 p.m. on Saturday at NoMar International Market, 21st and Broadway. The ICT-Army of Artists calls the free festival a “cultural intervention” to build community identity. It will include live interactive performance art and painting, including the making of graffiti panels addressing social issues such as immigration, according to one of the organizers, Armando Minjares. ‘Our Town’ in our town

The Guild Hall Players, a community theater group based at St. James Episcopal Church, will present Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town” at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 7 p.m. on Sunday at the church, 3750 E. Douglas. Tickets are $12, $10 for students through college. Tickets can be reserved by calling 316-683-5686. Doors open 30 minutes before the performances.

Tribute to a jazz friend

Butch Ginest was a Wichita jazz musician who died in August. He loved working with Friends University music students and helping with its jazz programs. The school will honor him Friday with a tribute jazz concert. The Friends University Jazz Ensemble I and the Jazz Friends Community Big Band will play big-band favorites at 8 p.m. at Sebits Auditorium on campus. Tickets are $9, $6 for seniors and students, at www.friends.edu/jazz or 316-295-5677.
