‘Coded_Couture’ opens at Ulrich

The fall exhibition at Wichita State University’s Ulrich Museum of Art opens Friday with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. “Coded_Couture” features 10 international artist-designers who create works – garments, drawings, sketchbooks, video projections and interactive opportunities – that explore how technology interplays with “the allure and history of haute couture.” On display you will find futuristic and thought-provoking pieces, such as skirts that read tweets and display patterns on screens, and clothes with built-in lie detectors. Also this week, the Ulrich will screen a free movie, “CODE: Debugging the Gender Gap,” at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The exhibition will be at the museum until Dec. 4.

Sevendust at the Cotillion

Sevendust, an alternative metal band, will play a show at the Cotillion on Friday evening, backed by a bevy of other metal bands. The five-piece band, currently on its national “Kill the Flaw” headline tour, will be accompanied by Crobot, Wilson, Twelve Foot Ninja and Black Box Warning.

Ballet in the park

Dancers with Ballet Wichita will perform “Alice in Wonderland” at various parks in the Wichita area Friday through Sunday. The free performances last about 45 minutes. Food trucks will be on hand at a Friday evening performance at Central Riverside Park. The show then travels to El Dorado and Wellington on Saturday, then to Maize on Sunday for a performance at its City Park.

‘Othello’ in the park

The Wichita Shakespeare Company begins its free Shakespeare in the Park series Friday with a performance of “Othello” at Central Riverside Park. You can start your evening with ballet at 6 p.m. and continue it with Shakespeare at 7. All performances are free and start at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the show will come to Wichita’s Harvest Park, and on Sunday it will be at Andover’s 13th Street Sports Park.

Heart of America Men’s Chorus at Roxy’s Downtown

The Heart of America Men’s Chorus is putting on a cabaret show at Roxy’s Downtown on Friday and Saturday, aptly titled “Life Is a Cabaret.” The bar at Roxy’s will be open while the men in the choir perform. The show is roughly two hours long.

Trace Adkins at Kansas Star Arena

Country music singer Trace Adkins comes to the Kansas Star Arena on Friday evening. Adkins, known for his hits “You’re Gonna Miss This” and “Ladies Love Country Boys,” also was the winner of “All-Star Celebrity Apprentice” in 2013. The Grammy-nominated member of the Grand Ole Opry is a TV personality, actor and author. Tickets are available for $20 to $35 at www.ticketmaster.com.

Summer Osborne performs at Club Boomerang

Summer Osborne, a St. Louis-based singer/songwriter, will close the Table of Hope Summer 2016 concert series with a performance Friday evening at Club Boomerang, 1400 E. First St. Proceeds from the concert, which is sponsored by Table of Hope Metropolitan Community Church, go to support the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, through which the church provides groceries to 1,100 to 1,400 people every Thursday. There will be an opportunity for a meet-and-greet after the concert.

2nd Saturday Artisan Market at the Workroom

Lip Sync Battle at Barleycorn’s

Barleycorn’s will host a “lip sync battle” – akin to the popular Jimmy Fallon skit that now is a show in its own right on Spike TV – on Sunday to benefit the Down Syndrome Society of Wichita. The lip sync performers – who had to register in advance – will be judged on their originality and creativity, appearance (costume, props, stage presence), crowd engagement and lip sync ability. The judging panel includes local musicians Rudy Love Jr., Laura Doeden (of Annie Up), Jake Wiley, Teketa Paschal and Scott Fowler (of En Power and Light). The event is limited to ages 18 and up, and a cash bar will be available.

Night at the (Wichita Art) Museum

The Wichita Art Museum is hosting its third annual Night at the Museum event, “Wheels Up,” on Thursday evening. The event will celebrate “all things wheels – roller skates, bikes, autos and motors.” The Jenny Wood Band will play, and the ICT Roller Girls will perform a skating demonstration.
