The social media rumors are true: Country star Jake Owen was in fact hanging out in Wichita on Thursday and met with a few fans he recruited via social media to play them his new album.

Owen, whose album “American Love” will be released on Friday, July 29, is in Wichita for a private event with Cessna, said Brian Jennings, program director at KZSN, 102.1 The Bull. Owen is known for hits like “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” and “Beachin’.”

On Thursday afternoon, Owen posted on Twitter and Facebook that he’d like to hang out with a few fans, grab some food and let them hear his new album.

Dozens of local fans posted videos, and around 4 p.m., Owen met with about eight of them, Jennings said.

There’s a rumor that Owen also will pop in to perform a song Thursday night with up-and-comer Chris Lane, who is appearing at the Free Range Bull Series at Club Rodeo, 10001 E. Kellogg. Admission to the show is free for people 21 and over and $15 for 18- to 20-year-olds. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show should begin around 9 p.m.

Owen has appeared in Wichita several times over the past several years. He was a headliner at last year’s Kansas State Fair, and he opened for Jason Aldean’s concert at Intrust Bank Arena in April 2015. He also headlined a show at Hartman Arena in June 2014.
