Wichita to eat, drink and dance on St. Patrick’s Day

Bagpipers, corned beef, green beer and Irish dancers will help celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Thursday in Wichita.

If you’re looking to imbibe some of the festive spirit, here are some places to eat, drink, listen — and maybe even dance your own little jig.

▪ The Wichita Caledonian Pipes and Drums will make four stops on St. Patrick’s Day: 5 p.m., Wichita Brewing Company at 8815 W. 13th St.; 6 p.m., Old Chicago at 2240 N. Tyler Road; 7:30 p.m., Wichita Brewing Company at 535 N. Woodlawn; and 9 p.m., Ernie Biggs Dueling Piano Bar at 550 N. Rock Road.

The group will also perform Saturday, at 5 p.m. at Heroes.

▪ The 41st annual Blarney Breakfast, a fundraiser for Rainbows, will be from 6 to 9:30 a.m. at Old Chicago, 7700 E. Kellogg. It includes breakfast food, coffee, bagpipers and Irish dancers. Tickets are $15 for ages 13 and older and $5 for ages 12 and under. Tickets are available at www.rainbowsunited.org and at the door.

▪ Hank’s Free St. Patty’s Day Bash, featuring a free concert by Shane Smith and The Saints, along with Mountain Deer Revival and the Adam Capps Band, kicks off at 8 p.m. at the Cotillion. Doors open at 7. You can get the free tickets at the Cotillion or thecotillion.com. The music is described as a touch of folk, rock, country and Americana — an “aggressive rootsy fiddle beat stew.”

▪ Kids can make St. Patrick’s Day and Easter crafts and decorate cookies at a Fun Day from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ, 6000 E. Harry. Macaroni and cheese will be served for lunch. The event is free. More info: 316-685-4451.

▪ The new Blarney Stone Pub Sports Bar and Restaurant, 2120 N. Woodlawn, will have a parking-lot party from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. that will include Irish food, Irish beer trucks and music. An Irish band will play from 5 to 6 p.m., and bagpipers at 6 and 9 p.m. Corned beef and cabbage will be served all day, and the restaurant also has several other Irish dishes on its regular menu.

▪ O’Malleys, 2405 W. 31st St. South, is throwing an all-day St. Paddy’s party including bagpipers, an Irish deejay, drink specials, karaoke and giveaways. O’Malley’s will open at 9 a.m. Corned beef and cabbage will be for sale for $5 all day. The bagpipers will arrive at 8 p.m.

▪ At Hopping Gnome, 1710 E. Douglas, the Noble House Hawaiian Plate Lunch food truck will be parked out front serving a corned beef and cabbage special from 5 to 9 p.m. Inside, the bar will have Irish music by The Route starting at 7 p.m. and Irish Red beer on tap. Admission is free.

▪ The Artichoke, 811 N. Broadway, will serve up green beer and corned beef and cabbage, and there will be an Irish open mike performance from 6 to 8 p.m.

▪ Adrian’s, 2121 N. Rock Road, will serve up corned beef and cabbage topped with a green brandy peppercorn sauce as well as an Irish beef stew with mashed potatoes, along with Guinness, green beer and live Irish music.

▪ Heroes Sports Bar, 117 N. Mosley, will be featuring corned beef and cabbage on the menu, as well as bagpipers and drink specials.

▪ Walt’s Great American Sports Bar & Grill, 7732 E. Central, is serving its traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner for $9.99 a person from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Bagpipers also will visit throughout the evening.

▪ Corky’s Pub & Grub, 779 N. West St., will feature music by the alternative rock band Yellow King along with Digital Wizardry and Ghost Town Strays at 9 p.m. There is no cover; must be 21.

▪ Shamrock Lounge, 1724 W. Douglas, will serve corned beef and cabbage from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 to 8 p.m. It’s $10 a plate.

▪ Two Olives, 2949 N. Rock Road, has corned beef and cabbage and shepherd’s pie available for carry-out all week. Call 316-681-1100 to place orders.

▪ Bagatelle Bakery, 6801 E. Harry, will be serving corned beef with cabbage, chicken pot pie, and themed cookies and cakes.

▪ Jimmie’s Diner, 2121 N. Tyler, 3111 N. Rock Road and 1519 S. George Washington Blvd., will add corned beef and cabbage and shepherd’s pie to the menu. Throughout March, they’re serving Shamrock shakes made with lime sherbet.

▪ Muse Cafe inside the Wichita Art Museum, 1400 W. Museum Boulevard, will serve corned beef with cabbage for lunch.
