10 things to do in the Wichita area this weekend (March 12-13, 2016)

We lose an hour of sleep this weekend, but we gain an hour of Sunday evening light. And since St. Patrick’s Day isn’t until Thursday, many of Wichita’s Irish festivities are taking place Saturday. The spring weather continues, so it’s all good.

Here are some of the things to do in the Wichita area this weekend.

St. Patrick’s 5K on Saturday at Old Cowtown Museum, costume contest at 7:30 a.m., 5K at 8 a.m., kids fun run for ages 8 and under at 9 a.m., 1865 W. Museum Blvd.; $35, $15 for the kids fun run; registration starts at 6:30 a.m.; www.wichitastpats5k.com.

Go Green Leprechaun Run 10K and 2-mile fun run on Saturday at Dyck Arboretum of the Plains in Hesston, including costume contest, green smoothies for sale, a prize for kids who cross the finish line, a raffle and a limerick search; 10K ($30) starts at 8:30 a.m. (registration starting at 7:45 a.m.) and fun run ($20) at 10 a.m. (registration starting at 9:15 a.m.); 177 W. St. Patrick’s Parade, noon Saturday, Douglas Avenue starting at McLean and going to Walnut Street, plus other activities in the Delano neighborhood, including an after-parade carnival for families at New Covenant Church at 1710 W.
