Art and Book Fair to spread out in Wichita Art Museum’s garden

The recently opened Art Garden at the Wichita Art Museum will be the new venue this May for the museum’s annual Art and Book Fair.

This will be the 57th year that the Friends of the Wichita Art Museum has put on the fair on Mother’s Day weekend — May 7 and 8 this year. For years, the fair was held outside Century II during the River Festival, but last year it returned to its roots and its original home at the museum.

The Art Garden was under construction then, however, so the fair was held indoors in truncated form, promising to come back reinvented this year.

And it will be, with artist tents, entertainment and food trucks outside on the museum grounds, while indoors, the book sale will take place in the Jim and Darla Farha Great Hall, and the Muse Cafe will serve a special menu on Saturday and, on Mother’s Day, traditional brunch.

Once again, regional and national artisans are being invited to attend the fair, which will include artisan ceramics, paintings, photographs, prints and jewelry.

Admission to the fair and to the museum will be free.
