The Midtown Men
With its rousing performances of beloved tunes from a bygone era, “Jersey Boys” was a smash hit on Broadway. Now, original cast members Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard and J. Robert Spencer are coming to Hutchinson as The Midtown Men. They’ll perform the biggest hits of the 1960s, from the Beatles to Motown and everything in between.

Gingerbread Village
Judging by the decorations in department stores, the holiday season is already here. The Assistance League of Wichita and Exploration Place are here to help Wichitans get in a festive spirit with the family-friendly Gingerbread Village. Visitors can channel their inner creativity through gingerbread house construction and take their sweet creations home. To set the mood, strolling carolers will serenade builders. This is something of a BOGO event: Your admission also allows you the opportunity to check out Exploration Place exhibits.

Kansas Outdoor Authors Event
Fans of literature and nature can mingle – and get to know Kansas a little bit better – at the Kansas Outdoor Authors Event. Co-authors Janet Bare, Michael John Haddock and Craig Freeman will sign copies of “Kansas Wildflowers and Weeds.” Jonathan Conard will also present and sign copies of “Kansas Trail Guide: The Best Hiking, Biking and Riding in the Sunflower State.” Books will be for sale, and the Owl’s Nest gift shop will be open.

Wichita Symphony
Beethoven. Shostakovich. Sibelius. The Wichita Symphony Orchestra will tackle works from all three composers, including one of Beethoven’s best-known pieces, Symphony No. 7, at two performances this weekend. Also on the bill: Jean Sibelius’ post-WWI work Symphony No. 7, as well as Dmitri Shostakovich’s satirical “Piano Concerto No. 1.” The works were all inspired by chaos, confusion or loss. Pianist Adam Neiman is the featured artist.

Keyshia Cole and Frankie Negron at Pandora
Pandora Night Club is a hot spot this weekend for live music with two Grammy-nominated performers making their way to Wichita. R&B and reality TV star Keyshia Cole kicks off the weekend with a performance Friday night. Her hits include “Heaven Sent,” “Let It Go” and “I Should Have Cheated.” And then Saturday night, salsa fans get ready. That’s when Latin music’s Frankie Negron will take the stage. Negron has been called “the genre’s next definitive voice” by All Music Guide.

Devin the Dude
Devin the Dude’s name may not be familiar to you, but he’s a well-known underground recording artist. The Houston-based hip-hop artist has released eight studio albums since 1998 and has worked with a who’s who of hip-hop including Andre 3000, Jay-Z, Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre. He brings his rhymes to a 21-and-over show this weekend at Barleycorn’s.

Philippe Lefebvre
Organ aficionados can see renowned organist Philippe Lefebvre perform on the Great Marcussen at Wichita State University next week as part of the Rie Bloomfield Organ Series. Lefebvre discovered the organ at age 16 and has parlayed that into a long-running career that includes multiple first-prize awards at international competitions. Since 1985, he’s been the organiste titulaire of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.

Parmalee
The country band Parmalee – brothers Matt and Scott Thomas, Barry Knox and Josh McSwain – has not had an easy road to success. Following one of their shows in 2010, Scott was shot multiple times and critically wounded during a botched robbery attempt. After Scott’s recovery, with support from the Nashville community and fans, the band persevered and landed a deal with Stoney Creek Records. The group performs Friday at the Cotillion, and you can probably expect to hear hits like “Carolina” and “Close Your Eyes.”

Wreath Festival
Christmas is coming early, and it’s bringing a collection of vintage Santas and handcrafted miniature trees. They’ll be on display at the 32nd Annual Wreath Festival at Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum. Visitors can also experience a blast to the past in the form of a Victorian Christmas exhibit. For those in a gift-buying mood, a selection of stocking stuffers, ornaments and accessories will be for sale. Lunch will also be available for purchase.
