Halloween at the bars

Local bars are celebrating Halloween this weekend – some on Friday and some on Saturday. Here’s what a few have planned:

River City Brewing Co. at 150 N. Mosley is throwing an All Hallows Eve Party at The Loft, its space upstairs, that will include a costume contest with a $150 prize, the unveiling of a spooky new beer, Halloween cocktails, and drink and food specials. The party is for ages 21 and older and starts at 5 p.m. Friday. Admission is free.

Wichita Hookah Cafe, 6249 E. 21st St.: This hookah bar is having a “Halloween Funfest” on Friday. Attendees in costume can get $1 off their hookah. The party starts at 10 p.m.

Public at the Brickyard, 129 N. Rock Island: The bar is throwing a party on Saturday that will include Halloween drinks, dinner specials and a $100 gift certificate for the best costume, which will be announced at 11:30 p.m. Pizza will be served until midnight. Admission is free.

Central Standard Brewery, 156 S. Greenwood: The brewery is celebrating Halloween on Saturday with a costume contest. A prize will be given to the “best dressed” Halloween visitor.

Barleycorn’s, 608 E. Douglas: Carrie Nation & The Speakeasy, a Wichita-based, five-piece acoustic band, will be back in town for Halloween and will headline a Halloween party on Saturday at Barleycorn’s. The show starts at 9 p.m. and will run until 1:30 a.m. Tickets are $10 at https://naymlis.ticketleap.com.

Rain, 518 E. Douglas: The bar is putting on a Halloween party called “Big Gay Halloween” from 8 p.m. to midnight on Saturday that will feature $5 Long Island iced teas and a costume contest.

Rock Island Live, 101 N. Rock Island: This bar is putting on its second annual “Haunted Island” party, which will feature a best costume and best couples costume contest, with cash prizes. Music will be provided by DJ BearFoot. Admission is $5, or $10 without a costume. The party starts at 9 p.m. Saturday, and attendees must be 21 or older.
