Dance troupe Ailey II, the younger branch of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, will bring its world tour to the Orpheum Theatre in March, the theater announced Friday.
The performance, scheduled for 8 p.m. March 6, is in partnership with Wichita State University’s College of Fine Arts.
Ailey II was formed in 1974, 16 years after Ailey first presented his choreography, which incorporated themes from the African-American experience. Since then, the junior troupe of a dozen dancers has grown into one of the most popular dance companies in the country.
The Wichita performance will be led by artistic director Troy Powell and will feature new commissions as well as Ailey II favorites such as “Alchemies,” “The External Knot,” “Cuore Sott’olio” and “Wings.”
Tickets to the performance go on sale at 10 a.m. Nov. 14. Tickets are $30 to $40 and are available at Select-A-Seat outlets, at 855-755-7328 or at www.selectaseat.com. They also can be purchased in person at the Intrust Bank Arena box office, participating Dillons stores and plant employee clubs.
