'The View' host Sunny Hostin representing son in legal case
"The View" co-host Sunny Hostin is representing her son, Gabriel Hostin, in his recent legal matter.
The 24-year-old was hit with a trespassing violation in New York City on June 16, according to records obtained by USA TODAY. The incident did not result in an arrest, but the Metropolitan Transportation Authority gave Gabriel Hostin a citation.
Sunny Hostin, who shares Gabriel Hostin with husband Emmanuel Hostin, is also a lawyer. She is listed as her son's attorney, according to the court docket, and his next court appearance is scheduled for July 31.
USA TODAY has reached out to a representative for Sunny Hostin for comment.
In a letter obtained by TMZ Monday, July 13, Sunny Hostin asked the prosecutor to dismiss the case, writing, "My client is a 2025 Harvard University graduate with no criminal history or prior contact with the criminal justice system."
She said Gabriel Hostin "is an avid runner and former Junior Olympian track athlete who was in the area training" when he saw a "gravel incline that could be used for hill training." While there was a "No trespassing" sign on entry gate, "it was not visible to [Gabriel Hostin] as he entered the property," Sunny Hostin said.
"He reasonably believed the area was accessible and had no intention of entering private property unlawfully," she continued, noting she arrived on the scene "within minutes" of a police officer approaching Gabriel Hostin.
She also stated "the officer acknowledged that the gate should have been closed," which reinforces her son's "reasonable belief that the area appeared open and accessible to the public."
"The facts demonstrate that this incident resulted from an honest mistake rather than any criminal intent," Sunny Hostin wrote. "Dismissal would avoid imposing unnecessary consequences on a young man who has demonstrated exceptional character and achievement and who poses no risk to the community."
