Like to hunt? Miss lake season? Wichita’s big boat, hunting show is this weekend
It’s felt a bit like spring outside in Wichita lately, which may have some Kansans thinking about getting out on the lake. Among the big events in Wichita this weekend will be a show at Century II dedicated to boaters, fishers and hunters.
The calendar also includes lots of Valentine’s Day events. Keep reading to plan your weekend.
Calling Kansas hunters, boaters
Lake weather will be back before Wichita knows it, and people can prepare at the Wichita Boat, Fishing & Hunting Show that will happen Friday through Sunday at Century II’s Expo Hall. It will feature a large display of boats and personal watercrafts for sale, and dealers will be offering special show discounts. The event will also have pro-angler demonstrations, a live stingray encounter, a mechanical bull and an appearance by Kansas deer recovery specialist Michael Pulido. The hours for the event are noon to 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $11.97 at the door or at selectaseat.com. Children 16 and under will be admitted free.
Flea market
The Wichita Flea Market is returning to one of its old spots for the first time in two years. The February market will happen from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Kansas Star Casino, 777 Kansas Star Drive, and will feature more than 200 vendors selling antiques, vintage items, reclaimed items, comics, jewelry and toys. This month’s market also will have a scavenger hunt with 20 hearts hidden throughout the booths. Anyone who finds at least 10 will be entered into a drawing for cash prizes and free tickets to future markets. Admission at the door is $4 for one day and $5 for two days. Children 12 and under will get in free.
Ready to rock?
Travel back to the 1980s at a Valentine’s Day concert by Hairball, a tribute band that recreates the music and the look of 1980s arena rock bands like Van Halen, Motley Crue, Queen and Journey. The doors for the show will open at 6 p.m. on Saturday, and the band will perform starting at 7:30 p.m. at Heartland Credit Union Arena, 8151 N. Arena Drive in Park City. Tickets are $43 to $60 and are available at ticketmaster.com
Spicy pops concert
The Wichita Symphony Orchestra’s pops concert is titled “Tango Caliente” and will take place on Saturday, which is Valentine’s Day. It will feature the concert’s creator — soprano Camille Zamora — along with professional Argentine dancers Yesica Esquivel and Ariel Leguizamón. The show will start at 7:30 p.m. at Century II’s concert hall, 225 W. Douglas. Tickets are $29-$85 at wichitasymphony.org, by phone at 316-267-7658 or in person at the Century II box office.
Country-rock at The Cotillion
The band 49 Winchester from Virginia, known for its country-rock sound and energetic live shows, will headline The Cotillion on Saturday night. The group’s most recognizable releases include “Hillbilly Happy,” “Fast Asleep” and “Tulsa.” The doors will open at 7 p.m., and the show will start at 8 p.m. with opening act Taylor Hunnicutt. The concert is open to all ages. Tickets are $38.38 at thecotillion.com
Baila Wichita
A Valentine’s Day event at Wichita’s Wave venue, 650 E. Second St., will be called “Tu Y Yo” (”You and I”) and will feature the Latin sounds of Tumbáo, a salsa group that also performs bachata and merengue music. The event, which starts at 9 p.m. on the indoor stage, will also include a performance by local dance group Baila Wichita as well as music provided by DJ Cez and DJ Necio. The event is open to ages 19 and over, and tickets are $19.42 for general admission and $33.05 for reserved VIP. Get them at waveict.com
