Beat the winter blahs with January’s coolest alt screenings in Wichita
January is somehow nearly over, but movie lovers still have plenty to cheer about before the calendar flips. From crafting-friendly rom-coms to bone-crunching Hong Kong action and big-screen fantasy epics, here’s what’s lighting up local theaters as the month winds down (titles and showtimes subject to change):

Knitflix & Chill: “When Harry Met Sally…” (1989) – Can men and women ever just be friends? Harry (Billy Crystal) and Sally (Meg Ryan) spend years trying to answer that question in this endlessly quotable rom-com classic.
This cozy screening invites you to bring your knitting, crocheting or any mess-free craft and settle in for a laid-back afternoon of handmade fun and feel-good cinema. No yarn? No worries. Harvester Arts will have yarn, crochet supplies and wine on hand from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Jan. 24 to help you get started. The movie begins at 2:30 p.m. Snacks will be available for purchase, and tickets are $15 (plus fees).

Hong Kong Cinema Classics: John Woo Edition — Slow-motion gunfights. Flying doves. Maximum cool. Regal Cinemas is celebrating action master John Woo with three of his most iconic films.
Up first is “Hard Boiled” (1992), starring Chow Yun-Fat as a hard-boiled cop who teams with an undercover agent to take down a vicious crime syndicate. Catch it Jan. 25, 26 and 28. (In Japanese with English subtitles.) Check Regal’s website for showtimes and tickets.
The series continues with “A Better Tomorrow” (1986) on March 1, 2 and 4, followed by “The Killer” (1989) on April 5, 6 and 8.
