On the list of Wichita holiday events this weekend: Bradley Fair’s tree lighting
The holiday season is underway in Wichita, and several more favorite annual events are on the calendar for this weekend, including the big Christmas tree lighting at Bradley Fair and the Wreath Festival at the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum.
Here’s a guide to some of the fun holiday (and non-holiday) happenings this weekend:
Bradley Fair tree lighting
4-7 p.m. Saturday, 21st and Rock
Bradley Fair, the retail complex at 21st and Rock, is putting on its annual tree-lighting ceremony from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday. The event will include the lighting of a giant outdoor tree at 6 p.m. plus photos with Santa, music by Studio Singers, food from Bradley Fair eateries, and rides on Bradley Fair’s electric train. People can also participate in weekly Holiday Strolls, which will last from 2 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 7, 14 and 21. Those events will include Santa photo ops, character visits and rides on the train. Rides are $5 for ages 5 and over. Get tickets for the train in advance at bradleyfair.com/event/holiday-tree-lighting. They’ll also be for sale at the event.
Wreath Festival
Friday and Saturday, Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum, 204 S. Main
The annual Wreath Festival at the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum returns for its 42nd installment this weekend. The event, which started on Thursday, will continue from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday. It will feature decorated wreaths, Christmas decor, baked goods, cards, books and gifts for sale. Admission is free. The museum also will sell a hot, sit-down lunch featuring chicken casserole, salad, croissant, and dessert for $16. Lunch reservations will be accepted by phone at 316-265-9314 or via email at wschm@wichitahistory.org. Drop-ins are welcome, but seating will be limited.
Feztival of Trees
Friday-Tuesday and Nov. 28-30, Midian Shrine Center, 130 N. Topeka
Another anticipated Wichita holiday event — The Midian Shrine Temple’s Feztival of Trees — will return for its 11th year from Friday through Tuesday and from Nov. 28 to Nov. 30. The event will happen at the Midian Shrine Center and will showcase decorated and themed trees. Visitors also can take selfies with Santa, visit the Snowflake Cafe for lunch and dinner and shop from vendors. Biscuits and gravy and full breakfasts also will be sold starting at 10 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets are $5. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays; and 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.
Ceremony of Lights at Friends
6 p.m. Sunday, Davis Hall Administration building, 2100 W. University
Friends University in Wichita’s Delano neighborhood always lights up its Davis Hall clock tower and the grounds around it for the holidays, and this year, the big lighting ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Sunday. The public is invited to attend the lighting, now in its 27th year. The evening will include carols and music by the Friends University Singing Quakers and the Friends University Band. Several Christmas trees will be decorated and on view, and cookies and cocoa will be served. Santa will also make an appearance. It’s free to attend.
Casey Donahew in concert
8 p.m. Friday, The Cotillion, 11125 W. Kellogg
Casey Donahew, a popular country music singer from Texas who has performed in Wichita many times in the past, will return for a concert at 8 p.m. on Friday at The Cotillion. He’s touring in support of his new album, “Never Not Love You.” Doors open at 7 p.m., and the opening act will be Jaron Bell. Tickets are $48.30 and available at thecotillion.com
Taylor Swift dance party
8 p.m. Saturday, Wave, 650 E. Second St.
“Taylor Party” is the title of an event scheduled for Saturday night at Wave that describes itself as “The world’s #1 fan-created, Taylor-inspired DJ tribute dance party.” The all-ages event starts at 8 p.m. on Saturday, and doors will open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25.89 at waveict.com
