This event provides annual signal that the holidays are starting in Wichita
A good sign that the holiday season has arrived in Wichita: The annual staging of Holiday Tables at Mark Arts. The event, which always showcases the decorating skills of some of Wichita’s premiere hostesses, returns this weekend and is just one of several fun events on the calendar for Wichita.
Holiday Tables
10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday-Saturday, noon-4 p.m. Sunday, Mark Arts, 1307 N. Rock Road
The annual Holiday Tables event, which features decorated holiday tables on display plus an art boutique and bake sale, happens this weekend at Mark Arts. The event, which is appropriate for ages 8 and up, happens from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $12 a person at markartsks.com/holiday-tables/
It’s First Friday
Friday evening, galleries across Wichita
It’s First Friday again, and as usual Wichita will be filled with art openings at galleries across town. One of this month’s shows is titled “The Measures of Time” and will feature the art of photographers Steve Wrubel and Reuben Wu. The show at Maven Gallery, 3238 E. Comic Con
4-8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Farha Sports Center, 3405 S. Meridian
Air Capital Comic Con, an annual Wichita convention dedicated to “comic book culture and all things geek,” will return this weekend to Farha Sports Center at the South YMCA. The event will include comic book vendors, clothing vendors, comic book writers and artists, authors and cosplayers. It’s from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $20 for a two-day pass, $10 for Friday only and $13 for Saturday only and can be purchased in advance at aircapcomiccon.com/tickets or at the door.
Treefest at the Arb
9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Bartlett Arboretum, 301 N. Line Street, Belle Plaine
Sunday is the annual TreeFest at Bartlett Arboretum in Belle Plaine, the last event of the year for the venue. Visitors will be able to shop with local vendors and take tree tours. The event also will include kids activities, a petting zoo and food and adult beverages for sale. Live music starts at 3 p.m. Admission is $10, free for children in the company of adults.
Time Travelers Vintage Expo
10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Century II Expo Hall
Love old stuff? The Time Traveler’ Vintage Expo, an event planned for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Century II, is a traveling vintage market that includes retro clothing, home decor and other items brought by vendors from across the country. Festival of Trains
9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Century II, 225 W. Douglas
Century II will be the site of this weekend’s The Festival of Trains, which will feature local exhibitors with their model trains, hands-on activities and kid-friendly fun. It lasts from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
