A big fiesta and more in Wichita this weekend

National Hispanic Heritage Month launches on Sept. 15, but Wichita can start celebrating this weekend.

Here are more details on it plus other fun things happening around town.

Celebrating Latin culture

1 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Evergreen Park

Friday saw the Herencia Hispana Fest, and Saturday will see the annual Latinfest ICT, a celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, in Evergreen Park. It will include music from a long list of bands, a car show, a history exhibit, a cooking demonstration, piñatas for the kids and lots of merchandise and food vendors. It will last from 1 to 10 p.m., and admission is free. No coolers or pets are allowed.

Lucky Strike launch party

Noon-3 p.m. Saturday, 11413 E. 13th St.

The Bowlero bowling alley at 11413 E. 13th St. has been rebranded as Lucky Strike, and it’s putting on a launch party on Saturday that will include free bowling, free arcade play and free snacks. The event lasts from noon to 3 p.m., and those who RSVP at bit.ly/LuckyStrikeWichitaLuckyLaunchParty will be entitled to one free round of bowling, a free arcade card worth $10, snacks and access to a cash bar. The event will also include giveaways. Those who want to attend must RSVP to the link above.

John PayCheck at Wichita Union Stockyards

7 p.m. Saturday, Wichita Union Stockyards, 6251 W. McArthur Road

John PayCheck, the son of music legend Johnny (“Take this Job and Shove It”), will perform with his full band on Friday at Wichita Union Stockyards and will play some of his father’s music as well as his own songs and covers. Doors for the show open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance at www.kwlsradio.com or $25 at the door.

Red Clay Strays in Andover

7 p.m. Thursday, Capitol Federal Amphitheater, Andover

The Red Clay Strays, a fast-rising Alabama-bred Americana band becoming well-known for its viral TikTok hit “Wondering Why,” will perform on Thursday at Andover’s Capitol Federal Amphitheater. The Dip will be the opening act. The show starts at 7 p.m., and doors open at 6 p.m. Remaining tickets are $120-$283 at selectaseat.com or at 316-755-7328.
