Van Gogh experience opening in Wichita today will immerse fans in famous works

Wichita has never been visited by one of those immersive art exhibitions that have become popular across the globe since the pandemic. But that will change this weekend when “Van Gogh: The Immersive Exhibit” starts a run that will last in Wichita at least through the end of 2025.

That show is just one of the many options for fun in Wichita during an August weekend that will also include concerts galore.

Immersive Van Gogh exhibit

Opens Friday, 3535 N. Rock Road

“Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience” opens in Wichita on Friday in a vacant storefront at 3535 N. Rock Road and will give art lovers the ability to feel like they’re a part of the famous artist’s most well-known works. The show uses 4K digital projection mapping to animate Van Gogh’s paintings and will include exhibits about Van Gogh’s life, a 5,000-square-foot immersive gallery, a virtual reality component that costs extra, and a gift shop. The show will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays and Mondays and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays at least through the end of 2025. Tickets are $32.90 for adults ages 13 and over; $28.90 for seniors ages 65 and older; $21.90 for students ages 13 to 26 with student ID and members of the military; and $25.90 for ages 4-12. Benoit blues

8 p.m. Saturday, The Cotillion, 11120 W. Kellogg

Four-time Grammy nominee and blues artist Tab Benoit is a frequent visitor to Wichita, and he will return for an all-ages show at The Cotillion on Saturday. The performance, a stop on his “I Hear Thunder” tour, will start with opening act GA-20. It’s at 8 p.m., and doors will open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $37.36 at thecotillion.com

Concert at the ball park

7:45 p.m. Friday, Equity Bank Park, 275 S. McLean

Equity Bank Park will continue its Ballpark Nights concert series on Friday with a show by the Eli Young Band. The group is a Texas-based rock/country quartet that got its start in 2002 and is known for songs like “Crazy Girl” and “Even If It Breaks Your Heart.” The show starts at 7:45 p.m. with opening act Easton Corbin. Local band bacchanal

5 p.m. Sunday, Wave, 650 E. Second St.

Bacchanal #4 is a fundraising concert scheduled for Sunday at the Wave music venue, and its organizers describe it as a “genre-bending celebration of rhythm, blues and country.” The show, which will raise money for Music Youth Partnership, will feature performances by 17 local acts, each of which will perform two or three songs. Among the groups in the lineup: Harrison Steele, Monterey Jack, Piper Leigh, Pretty Ugly, Llew Brown Band and Uche & The Crash. CSB turns 10

Noon-11:45 p.m. Saturday, 156 S. Greenwood

It’s been a decade since local craft brewery Central Standard Brewing opened its doors at 156 S. Greenwood, and as they always have, the owners will celebrate with an all-day outdoor block party. This year, the event will feature headliner Split Lip Rayfield. It will last from noon to 11:45 p.m. Saturday and will feature a lineup of bands plus special beer releases. It will also feature food for sale by First Mile Kitchen, Kobe Japanese Steakhouse, Tommy’s Apizza, Coffee Daze and more. Admission is free.

Classic rock concert

7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Park City Arena, 8151 Hartman Arena Drive, Park City

Park City Arena will be filled on Wednesday with the sounds of classic rock as the band Bachman-Turner Overdrive puts on a show that features opening act Jefferson Starship. The headliners are a band from Canada best known for 1970s hits like “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet” and “Takin’ Care of Business.” Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the music starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $67-$95 and are available at parkcityarena.com and www.ticketmaster.com/
