It’s rodeo time in Kansas: Where to catch the racin’ and ropin’ this weekend
Late summer in Kansas means it’s rodeo time, and the annual Chisholm Trail Saddle Club Rodeo runs Friday and Saturday in Clearwater.
That’s just one of several activities happening around Wichita as summer comes to an end. Here are a few other places to find fun this weekend:
Rodeo time
8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Chisholm Trail Saddle Club, 9138 S. 167th St. West, Clearwater
Local rodeo fans can head to Clearwater this weekend for the 57th annual Chisholm Trail Saddle Club Rodeo. It starts at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at the Chisholm Trail Saddle Club and will feature bull riding, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing and more. The event also will include live music by The Classic Cowboys after the rodeo on Saturday. Tickets are $15 a person or $40 a carload for adults. The rodeo takes cash only. Yacht Rock party
7-11 p.m. Friday, Holiday Inn Wichita East, 549 S. Rock Road
Even if you don’t have a yacht, or anywhere to dock one in Kansas, you can still sail away on the sounds of yacht rock, a genre from the 1970s and 1980s that includes boat-friendly soft-rock hits by groups like the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan. On Friday, local radio stations 97.1 BOB FM and 92.7 Classic Hits are sponsoring a Yacht Rock Celebration, which will last from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Wichita East. Night at Cowboy Camp
5:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, Old Cowtown Museum, 1865 W. Museum Blvd.
Aspiring young cowboys and cowgirls can attend an event at Old Cowtown Museum called Night at Cowboy Camp, where they’ll journey back to the 1800s and learn what it takes to be a cowboy. The event, which is recommended for ages 4-12, will happen from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday at the museum and will include cowboy-themed games and activities like roping and branding plus sarsaparilla and singing around the campfire. Tickets for Cowtown members are $22 for adults and $20 for children. Tickets for non-members are $23 for adults, $22 for children. They’re available at www.oldcowtown.org
Summer concert season continues

Summer concert series season is still underway in Wichita, and three different ones will be happening at the same time tonight. They are:
- Chicken N Pickle, 1240 N. Greenwich: Free concert by Jet City at 8 p.m. Friday. Admission is free.
- Audacy Summer Concert Series at Naftzger Park, 102 S. St Francis: Monterey Jack at 8 p.m. Admission is free.
- Eberly Farm Summer Concert Series, 13111 W. 21st St.: Concert by Jon and the Abandoned at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 at www.tickettailor.com/events/eberlyfarm
Kitten yoga
2 p.m. Saturday, Towne East Square, lower level outside of Scheels
The Wichita Animal Action League is sponsoring a Kitten Yoga event that starts at 2 p.m. on Saturday on the lower level of Towne East Square outside of Scheels. The 45-minute class will be beginner-friendly, and the kittens will roam freely between the yoga mats. A Kitten Shower follows at 3 p.m., where people can snuggle the kittens and donate supplies like cat litter, Purina One dry kitten food, Fancy Feast kitten canned food, litter boxes, and bleach for cleaning. Meet an author
2-4 p.m. Saturday, Advanced Learning Library, 711 W. Second St.
Saturday is Local Author Day at the Wichita Public Library’s Advanced Learning Library. The event includes a writer’s panel from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., and then from 2 to 4 p.m., a diverse lineup of local authors will be on hand with copies of their books for sale. Titles include both adult and children’s books. Admission is free.
