If you liked the “Beetlejuice” movies and want to see how the concept translates to the stage, you have just a few opportunities to catch Broadway in Wichita’s presentation of “Beetlejuice” the musical before it leaves town.

Other fun events happening this weekend in Wichita include Wave’s Second Annual Battle of the Bands, a WSU drag show, and a new Mosley Street Melodrama show.

Beetlejuice, the musical

Broadway in Wichita will wrap up its run of “Beetlejuice” the musical this weekend at Century II. Remaining shows are at 7:30 p.m. today; 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday; and 1 and 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. The show, a stage version of Tim Burton’s popular 1998 horror comedy, first debuted on Broadway in 2019. Tickets are $35-$85 from the Century II box office, BroadwayWichita.com, Century2.com and selectaseat.com. They’re also available by phone at 316-755-7328.

It’s First Friday

Friday, many Wichita art galleries

It’s First Friday in Wichita, and several local art galleries will be putting on free opening-night events. Among them will be the William J. Reals Gallery of Art at the KU School of Medicine in Wichita, which will open an exhibition called “Looking Inward: East High Collection.” The show, created in conjunction with East High School, will include an eclectic mix of student artwork displayed in the east and west galleries at the medical school. It will open with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight in the West Atrium and will include complimentary refreshments. Battle of the Bands

6 p.m. Saturday, Wave, 650 E. Second

CASA of Sedgwick County, a group that trains community members to advocate for abused and neglected children in the foster care system, is putting on its second Battle of the Bands fundraiser on Saturday. This year, the battling local acts will be Whitnie Means, Harrison Steele, Rebel Outlaws and Chronic Audio. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the battle starts at 6 p.m. Advance tickets to the all-ages show are $20 for adults, $15 for students and members of the military at waveict.com.

WSU Drag Show

8-10 p.m. tonight, Hughes Metroplex, 5015 E. 29th St.

Wichita State University’s 15th annual Drag Show is scheduled for 8-10 p.m. tonight at the Hughes Metroplex and will feature student and regional drag talent. The show will be hosted by Loosey Laduca of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and is open to ages 18 and over. Tickets, which must be purchased in advance at ulrich.wichita.edu, are $5 for WSU students, $10 for WSU faculty and staff and $15 for members of the general public. The event is being put on by Student Activities Council, Spectrum LGBTQ+ & Allies, and the Ambassadors for Diversity and Inclusion.

New Mosley Street show

6 p.m. tonight and Saturday, Mosley Street Melodrama, 234 N. Mosley

It’s opening weekend for Mosley Street Melodrama’s latest production, called “Hot Topic Time Machine.” The show, written by Scott Noah, sees the cast take a journey through space and time accessed through a secret portal in a Hot Topic changing room. After the intermission, audiences will see a “90s One Hit Wonderful Musical Comedy Revue.” Show times are at 6 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays though May 17. There will also be noon matinees on May 3 and May 10. For the 6 p.m. shows, dinner will be served from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m., and the show will start at 7:50 p.m. For the matinees, lunch will be served from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m., and the show will start at 1:50 p.m. Tickets are $42 for dinner, the show and a floor seat or $31 for a floor seat only. Peter Rabbit on stage

10 a.m. today, 10 a.m. and noon Saturday, Wichita Children’s Theatre and Dance Center, 201 S. Lulu

Just in time for Easter, the Wichita Children’s Theatre and Dance Center is taking the stage for a kid-friendly version of “Peter Rabbit,” the classic story about Peter and his sisters Flopsy, Mopsy and Cotton-tail. Shows are at 10 a.m. on Friday (the lunch show is already sold out), and at 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday at the theater, 201 S. Lulu. Tickets are $9. Those who attend the noon shows and want a pizza lunch that starts at 11:30 a.m. pay $11. Pizza must be reserved 24 hours in advance. The performances are appropriate for ages 2 and up. Flea Market weekend

9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Century II Exhibition Hall, 225 W. Douglas

It’s already Wichita Flea Market weekend again, and this month’s show is being relocated because of the weather forecast from its planned spot at Equity Bank Park to Century II’s Exhibition Hall . The market will be open for one day only — from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Admission will be $4, free for children 12 and under. The Easter Bunny will visit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the market will feature more than 225 booths with vendors selling things like crafts, jewelry and antiques.
