Christmas is over, but you can celebrate the holiday in Wichita a little longer
If you’re looking to get out of the house after Christmas, there’s plenty to do in Wichita this weekend, from playing Bingo Loco to meeting Peppa Pig to grabbing some final holiday cheer.
Illuminations is still going
5:30 to 8:30 p.m. through Jan. 4, Botanica, 701 North Amidon
Christmas is over, but several of Wichita’s best Christmas events will keep happening a little longer. One is Illuminations, the big light show at Botanica. It will not close until Jan. 4, so there’s still time. Visitors get tickets in advance and reserve a time slot at 5:30, 6:30, 7:30 or 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $16 for nonmembers, $13 for members, $10 for ages 3-11, and free for 2 and under. Winter Wildlife Festivus
Noon-2 p.m., Saturday, Central Riverside Park, 700 N. Nims
The annual Winter Wildlife Festivus Celebration will happen from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit in Central Riverside Park. The event is a tradition in the neighborhood and will include an “epic snowball fight” with faux snowballs, hot chocolate, tasty treats, singing, feats of strength and an airing of grievances. Admission is free. The event is hosted by the Friends of the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit.
Peppa Pig Night
6:05 p.m. Saturday, Intrust Bank Arena, 400 W. Waterman
Keep your kids happy during winter break with a trip to see Peppa Pig. The famous cartoon character will be on the concourse meeting children at Saturday night’s Wichita Thunder hockey game at Intrust Bank Arena. The Thunder will be playing against the Idaho Steelheads starting at 6:05 p.m. Doors will open at 5 p.m. Families can get a Peppa Pig four pack that includes four tickets and two mini sticks starting at $80. Bingo Loco
7 p.m. Saturday Crown Uptown, 3207 E. Douglas
People who are crazy about bingo can check out Bingo Loco, a traveling event that will arrive at the Crown Uptown on Saturday night. The three-hour event includes bingo but also has dance-offs, rave rounds, confetti showers, CO2 cannons, conga lines and lots of prizes. It’s described as an “immersive experience with the mentality of a theatre performance and the energy of a festival.” Bingo Loco is open to people ages 21 and older. It starts at 7 p.m., and doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $41-$42 at ticketmaster.com
A Victorian Winter
1-4 p.m. Sunday, Wichita Sedgwick County Historical Museum, 204 S. Main St.
The Wichita Sedgwick County Historical Museum is putting on an event called A Victorian Winter on Sunday. But it isn’t just for school children. All ages are welcome. It will give people a tour of the Wichita Cottage decorated for the holidays, and they can learn about the responsibilities Victorian families had during the winter. People who go will be able to make an articulated doll. The program lasts from 1 to 4 p.m. and tours are at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Admission is free.
