Controversial star’s Wichita performance canceled along with rest of her tour
Controversial YouTube star Colleen Ballinger — best known for her character Miranda Sings — has canceled her Wichita show at the Orpheum Theatre that was scheduled for Aug. 26. Online reports on Tuesday morning said that the comedian had also canceled the remainder of her tour dates.
Ballinger, 36, has been accused in recent weeks of grooming young fans and of performing in what appears to be blackface earlier in her career. Online reports also say that Ballinger’s new podcast “Oversharing” has been canceled after three episodes after her podcast partner Trishay Paytas pulled out. Ballinger has 8.5 million subscribers on YouTube.
The Orpheum’s website says that the show was canceled “due to unforeseen circumstances.” All tickets will be refunded at the original point of purchase, the site says. Those who purchased tickets by credit card will be automatically refunded by Select-a-Seat within 10-14 business days.
Ballinger has over the past 15 years built a large following of children and teens with her lipsticked alter-ego Miranda Sings, who was best known for performing obnoxious songs. She took the show on the road and also performed in Wichita in 2018.
The controversy started recently when one young fan said Ballinger sent him underwear and explicit images and another said she sent nude photos and videos.
She posted a video last week saying that the rumors were all part of a “toxic gossip train.”
