What to do in Wichita this weekend: Celebrate dad, shop, catch a concert
It’s Father’s Day weekend, and opportunities to celebrate dad abound across Wichita, from car shows to brunches to free admission at local attractions.
Of course, lots of non-Father’s Day events are also happening.
Here are some of the fun events on the calendar for this weekend in Wichita.
Father’s Day fun
Father’s Day Car Show: The Sedgwick County Zoo’s annual Father’s Day Car Show happens from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the zoo, 5555 W. Zoo Blvd. Dads will be admitted free on Sunday with an additional paid admission.
Father’s Day concert: Bartlett Arboretum, 301 N Line St. in Belle Plaine, will put on a special Father’s Day concert on Sunday with headliner Junior Brown, a country singer and guitarist. Tickets are $15 at the gate, and attendees can get food from vendors on site or pack a picnic. Gates open at 3 p.m., and the concert is at 4 p.m.
Father’s Day Car Show II: Bethel Life center at 3777 S. Meridian is also putting on a Father’s Day Car Show, which lasts from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. Donations will be accepted to support Convoy of Hope.
Day of the Dad: Twister City Harley Davidson at 5427 Chuzy Drive is putting on its Day of the Dad event from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Dads can bring their bikes, get beard trims and have professional photos taken with the Harley Angels. Food and drink will be available for purchase.
Dads get in free: Dad’s get free admission from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Wichita Flea Market, 3405 S. Meridian; and from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Botanica, 701 Amidon

Ricky Skaggs in concert
8 p.m. Saturday, Kansas Star Casino, 777 Kansas Star Drive, Mulvane
Country and bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs will be at the Kansas Star Casino on Saturday performing with his band Kentucky Thunder. The 15-time Grammy winner and Country Music Hall-of-Famer, best known for songs like “Cajun Moon,” “Highway 40 Blues,” and “Country Boy,” will perform at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25-$50 at www.ticketmaster.com. All ages may attend.
Shop & Grub
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Naftzger Park, 601 E. Douglas
FestiveICT’s monthly Shop & Grub Market returns this weekend featuring vendors selling items like vintage clothing, art, home goods, wine, food and more. The event, which lasts from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday at Naftzger Park, will include a bar as well as music by DJ Magnum and Macrobiotics. The markets will continue on the third Sunday of every month through November. Admission is free.
Food truck party
6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Delano Food Truck Park, 220 S. Handley
Another Night in Delano Food Truck Rally is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the new Delano Food Truck Park. Several local food trucks and vendors will be there, and Grace Hill Winery will be selling beer and wine. The event will also include live music. Admission is free.
Community Fair Days
Noon-5 p.m. Sunday, Old Cowtown Museum, 1865 W. Museum Blvd.
Old Cowtown Museum’s monthly event Community Fair Days returns this weekend featuring more than 50 local vendors selling items like art, home decor, food, clothing and more. The events will happen on the third Sunday of each month through October. Admission is free.
Five-band concert
7 p.m. Friday, Odd Fellow Hall, 930 W. Douglas
Odd Fellow Hall this weekend will be the site of a concert featuring five bands. The show, co-hosted by Next Records, starts at 5 p.m. on Friday. On the bill: No Banana performing at 8 p.m.; grunge band Flyover at 9 p.m.; Left Without Notice, an alternative rock three-piece band, at 10 p.m; rapper Seuss Mace at 10:30 p.m.; and psychedelic rock/ metal rap band Sunset Motel at 11 p.m. Food will be for sale, as will specialty cocktails. Doors open at 7 p.m. and all attendees must be 21 years or older. Tickets are $15 at the door.
