What to do in Wichita this weekend: Monster Trucks, wrestling, concerts and comedy
Wichita’s entertainment calendar this weekend is rather diverse. You can see monster trucks, take in a stand-up show, meet a famous author or see a The Beatles tribute.
Here’s a list of some of the events Wichitans can check out during the last weekend in February.
Return of Monster Jam
1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, 1 p.m. Sunday, Intrust Bank Arena, 500 E. Waterman
Fans of giant trucks rejoice: Monster Jam returns to Intrust Bank Arena this weekend with three shows: at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday and at 1 p.m. Sunday. The event, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, will also offer a “Pit Party” fan experience that will allow attendees to meet drivers and crews and see the trucks up close. ‘Lost Apothecary’ signing
4:30 p.m. Friday, Advanced Learning Library, 711 W. Second St.
Author Sarah Penner, who wrote “The Lost Apothecary,” will appear at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at The Advanced Learning Library to celebrate the paperback release of her book. Penner, a KU graduate, will read from the book and answer questions. Books also will be available for purchase at the event, and Penner will sign copies. Admission is free.
World Class Wrestling
6 p.m. Sunday, Cotillion, 11120 W. Kellogg
World Class Revolution Pro Wrestling will put on its “Clash at the Cotillion VI” featuring wrestler Sting on Sunday. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the wrestling starts at 6 p.m. General admission tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children. Reserved tickets are also available for $20.
Beatles band
8 p.m. Friday, The Orpheum, 200 N. Broadway
The Liverpool Legends, a Beatles Tribute Band, who have their own theater in Branson, Missouri, where they regularly perform, are on tour and stopping for a show on Friday at The Orpheum. Local British Invasion tribute band Across the Pond will open the show, which will start at 8 p.m. Tickets are $40-$65 and available at www.selectaseat.com, by calling 316-755-7328 or at the Select-a-Seat box office inside Intrust Bank Arena.
Cavves in concert
8 p.m. Saturday, TempleLive, 332 E. First St
A concert by local band The Cavves — which describes its style of music as “landlocked indie surf rock” — is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Saturday at TempleLive, the music venue inside the Scottish Rite Center. The show will also feature acts Atria, Mad City Cruisers and Audacious Pulse. The all-ages show starts at 8 p.m., and doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance at wichita.templelive.com or $12 the day of the show.
Southern comedy
7 p.m. Saturday, Orpheum Theatre, 200 N. Broadway
Comedian Leanne Morgan, a Tennessee native who gained fame online with her Southern humor and Southern accent, will bring her “Big Panty Tour” to The Orpheum Theatre on Saturday.
