What to do in Wichita this weekend: See a comedy show, catch a concert, plan your wedding

Christmas is packed away, but the fun continues in Wichita. Several events are on the calendar for the second weekend of January, including a bridal show, a comedy show, a birthday bash for Elvis and a make-up date for a concert that was canceled during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Here are some options:

Bridal show

10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, noon-5 p.m. Sunday, Century II, 225 W. Douglas

The annual Bridal & Event Expo is returning to Century II this weekend with live fashion shows, a $10,000 grand prize package, tastings, wedding decor ideas and more. The event happens from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Century II Convention and Exhibition Halls, 225 W. Douglas. Single-day passes are $13, and two-day passes are $15. Children 11 and under get in free. Tickets can be purchased at wichitatix.com. More information can be found at WichitaBridalShow.com.

Happy birthday, Elvis

7 p.m. Saturday, Crown Uptown, 3207 E. Douglas Ave.

Elvis Presley would have turned 87 this year, and The Crown Uptown Theatre will celebrate his birthday with its Elvis Birthday Bash on Saturday. The show will star Elvis impersonator Dale Kenny, who will perform Elvis’ classic hits with the Nite Classik’s Band. The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $20 at crownuptown.com or at the door for $25.

‘Sister Act’

7 p.m. Thursday, Orpheum Theatre, 200 N. Broadway

The Orpheum Theatre is including a showing of the 1992 American comedy film “Sister Act” as part of its 2022 Anniversary Film Series. “Sister Act” stars Whoopi Goldberg as a lounge singer who, after being placed in a witness protection program, is forced to join a convent. The showing starts at 7 p.m. on Thursday. General admission tickets are $8 or $7 for students, seniors, military, or groups of 10 or more. Another Harry Potter pop-up bar

Thursdays through Saturdays, 2120 N. Woodlawn

Headshots Bar & Grill is continuing the Harry Potter-themed pop-up bar it put on over Christmas but is changing things up a bit. It just opened “Apparition: Quidditch,” which offers new cocktails and the addition of Quidditch tables. The pop-up bar will be open from 6 to 11 p.m. Thursdays and 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Jan. 22 at 2120 N. Woodlawn. Admission is free.

Comedy show

8 p.m. Sunday, Barleycorn’s, 608 E. Douglas

The “Hey Buddy Comedy Show” this weekend at Barleycorn’s will feature local comedians Jeremy Rush and Levi Mabe as well as Kansas City’s Stacey Kay and Matthew Rich. Doors will open at 7 p.m., and the show will start at 8 p.m. on Sunday at the bar, 608 E. Douglas. Tickets are $10 in advance at heybuddycomedy.com or $15 at the door. All attendees must be 21 years or older.

Kansas Star Arena, 777 Kansas Star Drive, Mulvane

Singer Brian McKnight is making up his previously scheduled concert at the Kansas Star Casino this weekend. The singer, who is best known for his 1992 hit “One Last Cry,” will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the casino’s Kansas Star Arena. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at kansasstarcasino.com. All tickets for the original concert, originally scheduled on July 17, 2020, will be honored. All ages will be admitted.

Art Together at Mark Arts

10 a.m. to noon, Mark Arts, 1307 N. Rock Road

Mark Arts, 1307 N. Rock Road, is partnering with the Wichita Chinese School and Mid-America Dance Theatre for its latest “Art Together,” a free monthly event for families. The event, which happens on Saturday, will feature a bilingual story time, Chinese New Year art projects and more. The Mid-America Dance Theatre will also put on an interactive improvised performance. The event is from 10 a.m. to noon, and admission is free.
