What to do in Wichita this weekend: Soak up fall color, sip wine, laugh a little
There’s plenty to do in Wichita over the first weekend in November.
One event invites people to gaze at colorful fall leaves. Another offers a chance to sip wine while strolling through an adults-only pumpkin patch. Here are a few of the options:
Fall color and a concert
Noon, Sunday, Bartlett Arboretum, 301 N Line Street, Belle Plaine
The Bartlett Arboretum in Belle Plaine on Sunday will be putting on its annual TreeFest, which will feature fall color, visits with tree professionals and “Tall Tree Tales” told by the arboretum’s Robin Macy at noon and 2 p.m. Singer/songwriter Mary Gauthier will perform at 4 p.m., and singer Jaimee Harris will open the show at 3:30 p.m. Attendees also can shop at the arb market and get food from Lyons Den BBQ starting at 1 p.m. Admission is $10.
A celebration of the bearded
2 p.m. Saturday, Old Cowtown Museum, 1865 W. Museum Blvd.
“Middle of the Map: Manes & Music” is a charity event scheduled for Saturday at Old Cowtown Museum that will feature the city’s best facial hair. The main event will be a facial hair competition divided into 13 categories ranging from Goatee to Styled Stache. It costs $20 to compete for adults and $5 for kids entering the “Whisker Kids” category. The event will also include live music by Rudy Love Jr., Brian Tiemeyer and more. The theme of the event is steampunk. It starts at 2 p.m, and regular museum admission applies: $9 for adults, $8 for seniors, $7 for kids ages 12-17, $6 for ages 5-11, and free for ages 4 and under. Pumpkin patch wine walk
2-5 p.m. Saturday and Nov. 13, Applejack Pumpkin Patch, 10007 SW Indianola Road, Augusta
Halloween is over, and now the Applejack Pumpkin Patch is just for grownups. The Augusta venue this weekend is putting on an adults-only event called the “Applejack & Grace Hill Wine Walk.” Attendees can enjoy a walk through the pumpkin patch as well as food, live music and a selection of wines by Grace Hill Winery. The wine walk will start at 2 p.m. and last through 5 p.m on Saturday and again Nov. 13. Tickets are $30 per person and include a wine glass and six tasting tickets. All tickets must be pre-purchased at applejackpumpkinpatch.com. Guests must be 21 years or older. ID is required.
Art Together: Dia De Los Muertos
9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Mark Arts, 1307 N. Rock Road
Mark Arts is putting on a Dia De Los Muertos event on Saturday as a part of “Art Together,” a free monthly art event for families. The event will include story time in the galleries, an art project where guests will create giant tissue paper marigolds, and a traditional Mexican dance performance by the Danza Juan Diego group. Jon Langston in concert
7 p.m. Friday, Wave, 650 E. Second St.
County artist Jon Langston will be performing at Wave this weekend. Langston, a former opener for Luke Bryan, is best known for his hit songs “When it Comes to Loving You,” “Now You Know” and more. The doors for the concert open at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m. on Friday. Tickets are $29 and can be purchased at waveict.com.
Game Show night
7-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Crown Uptown, 3207 E. Douglas
Game Show Night is returning to the Crown Uptown on Saturday. The event will feature local celebrities like County Commissioner Sarah Lopez, KNSS’s Ted Woodward and The Wichita Eagle’s Denise Neil competing in old fashioned game show games like Match Game, Family Feud and Password. Those who buy tickets to the event, a fundraiser for the Crown Arts Collaborative, will also get a chance to be called on stage to compete with the celebrities. The event lasts from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $30, $10 for students and $15 for Crown Arts Collaborative ticket holders. They’re available at www.crownuptown.com/events/gameshow.
Comedy on stage
8 p.m. Thursday, Cotillion, 11120 W. Kellogg
The Cotillion on Thursday will be home to a performance by comedian Dave Landau, who is best known for his appearances on Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham” and for being a finalist on season eight of “Last Comic Standing.” Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will start at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $25 to $80 and can be purchased at thecotillion.com.
