The May 16 concert won’t be the first time that Kristin Chenoweth has stepped foot on the Century II stage.

In the summer of 1991, billed as “Kristi D. Chenoweth,” the recent Oklahoma City University graduate was among the company for Music Theatre Wichita.

She played Tuptim in “The King & I,” one of the “Two Ladies” in “Cabaret,” and was in the ensemble for “Fiddler on the Roof.”

“She was already a most amazing presence onstage, and that voice was quite glorious,” longtime MTW producing artistic director Wayne Bryan wrote in an email.

Bryan, who reunited with Chenoweth in her dressing room in her Broadway run in “On the Twentieth Century,” said she treasured her experience with MTW.

“She has been very gracious to stay in touch with us all these years, and she is unfailingly kind to our alumni when she meets them,” he wrote. “We’re very excited that she is coming back to Wichita.”
