Santa arrives for the season at Towne East Square tonight, and when he does, he’ll find much-improved digs.
This year, the mall invested in some new holiday decor — including an all-new set for Santa — that will make holiday shopping more festive, said Sara Fleming, the mall’s director of marketing.
Santa’s new hangout includes a majestic green chair, a red and gold canopy, a toy soldier standing guard, giant wrapped gifts and his name written out in garland and lights. Santa’s spot, as usual, is just in front of Sears on the mall’s lower level. He’ll be accepting visitors through Christmas Eve, though not every day. His schedule is at www.simon.com/mall/towne-east-square.
Another new addition: While waiting to see the big guy, kids can play interactive touch-screen games and pose at a selfie station.
The mall also will have decorations besides just lights on the outside of the building this year, including garland and wreaths. Inside, it will have dramatic lighted starbursts hanging from the ceiling.
Santa’s arrival will be greeted by a holiday parade through the mall that will start at the southeast entrance of the mall off of Rock Road at 6:30 p.m. tonight. The evening also will include a snow show, live reindeer and a Nutcracker performance by Ballet Wichita.
