Twilight Tuesdays are back at the Sedgwick County Zoo, but they'll operate differently than they did in the past.
This year, admission to the zoo will be $3 from 8:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays throughout July. In past years, the zoo offered regular admission until 5 p.m. on Tuesdays then admitted people free from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
The special deal, which lets visitors get a glimpse of what goes on after dinner is served and the day cools off, starts on Tuesday.
Jennica King, Sedgwick County Zoo marketing and public relations director, said each group of visitors needs one Twilight Tuesday voucher to get the discount for everyone in the party. Twilight Tuesday vouchers are free to pick up at any area Cox Solutions Store.
King said this is the first year the event is all day.
“In the past, it has been free from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and with that, we had a big showing,” King said. “We hope now that the hours are all day there will be lots of people throughout the day and not just in that two-hour period at night.”
The changes actually make Twilight Tuesday a better deal, King said.
“The $3 admission price is the reason we extended the hours,” King said. “In the past, when Twilight Tuesday was just in the evening, the regular admission during the day was the same price as it is every day. It’s actually a better deal to have $3 access to the zoo all day.”
Normal single-day rates for the Sedgwick County Zoo are $15.95 for adults ages 12-61, $11.95 for children ages 3-11 and for senior citizens ages 62 and above.
Vouchers can be reused on multiple Twilight Tuesdays. Members of the Sedgwick County Zoo do not need a voucher.
Wichita Cox locations include 2556 N. Maize Road, Suite 102; 2240 N. Rock Road, Suite 101; and 446 S. Ridge Road, Suite 100. Vouchers are available in Derby at 1636 N. Rock Road, Suite 100 and in El Dorado at 101 E. 12th.
The final Twilight Tuesday will be on July 31.
